This has become an important issue as PG2 has become all but unplayable on some NVIDIA graphics cards and with Vista, in many cases. The end result is that guys stop playing, which is the kicker.

This forum thread at JP's Panzers has heaps of useful discussions and tips for 'solving' the problems, which are so various that they defy a simple solution.

This is the issue I have on my laptop with the NVIDIA Quadro NVS 140 graphics card. I have to disable or lower graphic acceleration before playing PG2 and then enable it for any other game, video or application. Also the screen is very small and scrolling the map is very hard because it moves very fast and I have to use arrow keys to move it bit by bit. This is also my excuse for the lack of strategic vision in my games.

I'm not sure the installer solves all these problems. There is a recruit at the moment using it who is still having issues. Can play PG2 but the mouse skips off icons and there are no AI combat projections. Minor but annoying.

The problem is there isnt one fix so its real tough to help others solve their problems. I used ATI and had a fast mouse (with accelerator off). I now use Nvidia and have a fast mouse. Mr. Happy said he fixed his fast mouse problem by buying a new mouse! I think he said the software included fixed the problem. I never thought of that and yet it makes so much sense.

I read the linked posts. Again so many different problems with perhaps only Nvidia being the common problem (and yet ATI was no better for me). Some of those fixes sound scary to me. I dont want to make PG2 a little better and than find out I hurt other games.

Than the really sad part is those AI players have no idea what happens in our PBEM format. If both players arent using the same "so-called fix" (apart from drivers and compatibility modes) what happens with the replay? The password bug? Maybe nothing at all.

You will be please to know that my son downloaded FFWC PG2 and soundup to see if they worked with Windoze 7
Here is his report.

You will be glad to know that the sound works fine. I played an entire scenario and all was well - I even won a brilliant victory!

The settings changes I used were as follows :-

1. Right click PG2UK220.exe select properties

2. Select compatibility tab

3. Choose run this program in compatibility mode for Windows 95 (ZX Spectrum mode might have been handy for this game J )

4. Tick run in 256 colours and run in 640x480 screen resolution mode

Play the game J

Good news. Hopefully there won't be the same number of issues with Windows 7 as there were with Vista (may the fleas of a thousand camels infest it).
